Ad Volumes of ‘Auto Sector’ on Radio clocks 65% growth during Jan-Jun’21

Ad Volumes of ‘Auto’ sector on TV grew by 34% during Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20. ‘Cars’ was the Top category with 45% share followed by ‘Two Wheelers’ with 43% share. The Top 10 advertisers together accounted for a 72% share of Auto sector advertising on TV. ‘News Genre’ had a 50% share of the sector Ad Volumes during Jan-Jun’21 followed by ‘Movies Genre’.

‘Cars’ was the Top category with 45% share followed by ‘Two Wheelers’ with 43% share. The Top 3 Categories retained their ranks in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20. ‘Tractors’ category moved to 4th position in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20. ‘Auto Accessories’ was the new entrant among the Top 10 categories in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20.

‘TVS Motor’ was the top advertiser with 18% share in Jan-Jun’21. In Jan-Jun’20, it was in 7th position. ‘Hero Motocorp’ moved up to 4th position in Jan-Jun’21 compared to 10th position in Jan-Jun’20. ‘Renault India’, ‘Nissan Motor’ & ‘Suzuki Motorcycle India’ entered the Top 10 list in Jan-Jun’21. ‘Citroen C5 Aircross’ topped among the exclusive brands of the sector in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20 followed by ‘Renault Kiger’ on 2nd position. Exclusive Brands occupied 48% share of sector Ad Volumes during Jan-Jun’21. 7 out of the Top 10 Exclusive Brands were from Cars category, two from Two Wheelers and one belonged to Tyres category.

‘Prime Time’ was the most preferred time band on TV, followed by ‘Afternoon’ in Jan-Jun’21. ‘Prime Time’, ‘Afternoon’ & ‘Morning’ time bands together accounted for more than 70% share of sector Ad Volumes. Advertisers of the Auto Sector preferred 20 – 40 secs ad size on TV. 20-40 seconds and <20 seconds ads together covered 94% share of Ad Volumes during Jan-Jun’21.

‘Auto Sector’ occupied 14% share of overall Print advertising during Jan-Jun’21. Ad Volumes of ‘Auto Sector’ in Print grew by 9% during Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20. Ad Volume of ‘Auto Sector’ in Print drop by 45% during Jan-Jun’20 over the Jan-Jun’19. In Print Media, ‘Auto Sector’ saw consistent advertising growth during Jan-Mar’21. In Jun ’21, sector Ad Volumes in Print rose by 15.3 times as compared to May ’21.

The top 2 categories together had a 79% share of the sector ads in Print. ‘Tractor’ was in 3rd position with 4% share followed by ‘Commercial Vehicles’ on 4th. The Top 10 Categories accounted for more than 85% share of the Auto sector Ad pie. ‘Cars’ & ‘Two Wheelers’ categories maintained their ranks in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20.

Top 3 Advertisers maintained their ranks in Jan-Jun’21 over Jan-Jun’20. ‘Maruti Suzuki India’ was the top advertiser in Jan-Jun’21 with 16% share followed by ‘Hero Motocorp’. ‘TVS Motor’ moved to 4th position in Jan-Jun’21 compared to 9th in Jan-Jun’20.

‘Suzuki Motorcycle India’ & ‘Skoda Auto’ entered in the Top 10 list during Jan-Jun’21 from 14th and 15th positions respectively in Jan-Jun’20. The Top 5 advertisers together added more than 50% share of Auto sector advertising.

36% share of sector advertising occupied by Exclusive Brands during Jan- Jun ’21. ‘Renault Kiger’ was the top Exclusive brand followed by ‘Honda Shine’ on 2nd position. Among the Top 10 exclusive brands, 5 were from Cars and Two Wheelers categories each. Among the Top 5 exclusive Brands, 2 belonged to Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India and Hyundai Motor India each.

Hindi Publication Language was on top with a 44% share of sector Ad Volumes. Top 4 publication languages together added 75% share in Jan-Jun’21. The General Interest publication genre added a 98% share of sector advertising. ‘North Zone’ topped for Auto sector advertising with 36% share during Jan-Jun’21 closely followed by ‘South Zone’. ‘New Delhi’ & ‘Mumbai’ were the Top 2 cities in India in terms of Auto sector advertising in Print.

Among the various Sales Promotions used in Print, Multiple Promotions grabbed 79% share of Ad Volumes in Print, followed by Discount Promotion with 12% share. Top 3 Sales Promotions solely covered 97% of the Sales Promotions Ad Pie. Total 1100+ Advertisers have utilized Sales Promotions in advertising with 2220+ brands of the sector during Jan-June’21. Hero Motocorp’, ‘Maruti Suzuki India’ & ‘TVS Motor’ were the Top 3 Advertisers utilizing sales promotion ads in Jan-Jun’21. Top 4 Advertisers together contributed more than 50% of the Sales Promotions activity in Jan-Jun’21.

Radio 

Ad Volumes of ‘Auto Sector’ on Radio grew by 65% during Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20.

Ad Volumes of ‘Auto Sector’ on Radio drop by 59% during Jan-Jun’20 compare to Jan-Jun’19. On Radio, ‘Auto Sector’ saw the highest advertising during Mar ’21. Ad Volumes of ‘Auto Sector’ on Radio rose by 9.2 Times in Jun ’21 compared to May ’21. ‘Cars’ category topped with 58% share during Jan-Jun’21 followed by ‘Two Wheelers’ on 2nd position with 20% share. Top 10 categories accounted for 88% of ‘Auto’ sector Ad Volumes on Radio during Jan-Jun’21.

‘Maruti Suzuki India’ was the top advertiser in Jan-Jun’21, followed by ‘Hyundai Motor India’. ‘Honda Motorcycle & Scooter’ moved to 3rd position in Jan-Jun’21 compared to 10th in Jan-Jun’20. ‘TVS Motor’ & ‘MG Motor India’ entered among the Top 10 during Jan-Jun’21. The Top 10 advertisers together added more than 75% share of Auto sector advertising on Radio. 185+ exclusive brands present in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20. ‘Honda H’ness CB 350’ was the top exclusive brand during Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20 followed by ‘Hyundai i20’ on 2nd position. Exclusive brands on Radio garnered a 39% share of the Auto sector during Jan-Jun’21. Among the Top 10 exclusive brands, 5 were from the ‘Cars’ category, and 3 belonged to ‘Two Wheelers’. The Top 4 states occupied more than half of the ad pie in the Auto sector. Gujarat state was on top with a 16% share of ad volumes, closely followed by Maharashtra with a 15% share.

Advertising for the Auto sector was preferred in the Evening and Morning time-band on Radio during Jan-Jun’21. 41% share of the Auto Ad Volumes were in the Evening time-band followed by 34% in the Morning.

Digital

‘Auto Sector’ had a 4% share of overall Digital Ad Insertions during Jan-Jun’21. ‘Auto Sector’ observed a positive rank shift in Jan-Jun’21 compared to Jan-Jun’20. Ad Insertions of ‘Auto Sector’ on Digital rose by 2.5 times in Jan-Jun’21 over Jan-Jun’20. Ad Insertions of ‘Auto Sector’ saw a drop of 63% during Jan-Jun’20 compared to Jan-Jun’19. Ad Insertions of the Auto sector on Digital grew by 10% in Jun ’21 compared to May ’21.

The top 3 Categories together had more than 80% of the Ad Insertions’ share in the Auto sector. ‘Auto Products’ & Services’ achieved 3rd rank in Jan-Jun’21 compared to 6th in Jan-Jun’20. The ‘Auto Accessories’ category moved up by two positions in Jan-Jun’21 compared to the 10th rank in Jan-Jun’20.

The top 2 advertisers in the list were new entrants in Jan-Jun’21.In Jan-Jun’20, they were in 19th & 14th positions respectively. The Top 10 advertisers together combined 60% of the sector ads on Digital.

Ather Energy’ was the top advertiser in Jan-Jun’21 followed by ‘TVS Motor’ on 2nd position. ‘Bajaj Auto’ moved to 4th position in Jan-Jun’21 compared to 6th in Jan-Jun’20. ‘Renault India’, ‘Nissan Motor’ & ‘Gujarat Gas Company’ entered the Top 10 list during Jan-Jun’21. Ad Network transaction method topped with 58% share of Auto sector’s Ad Insertions on Digital during Jan-Jun’21 followed by Programmatic method on 2nd place with 17%.
