Work, Gaming and the Future: A Quick Analysis
Share Share ShareShare

The pandemic has led to social isolation and months-long lockdowns. For companies, that has meant a shift to work-from-home setups. Businesses that depend on consumer traffic, though, suffered, with many closing their doors. As people spend the majority of their time at home, online companies surged. Companies that used to operate in traditional business environments learned to shift to digital. Companies that were already in that space like gaming firms were in a unique position to take advantage of what was happening.

Gaming Under Lockdown

For many people, the lockdown’s forced isolation has meant finding ways to alleviate the stress, anxiety, and boredom. Many turned to gaming, some for the first time, while others were former gamers, rediscovering what they loved about gaming. Whether newcomers or old-timers, plenty went exploring. As a result, demand grew, with gamers snapping everything up from new consoles and games, to developers rushing to meet deadlines for new titles. There were also gaming platforms that welcomed the influx of new gamers.

The Popularity of Online Gaming

The pandemic meant that people stayed at home or isolated in an attempt to control, manage, and even eventually prevent the virus from spreading. Lack of people led to many casinos closing down, some temporarily and others for good. Customers now left with nowhere to go realized they could turn to the online gambling sector to make up for the current lack of casinos in their everyday lives. Those who loved to gamble turned to digital platforms, looking for the best online casino in India

Continued Rise in Numbers

Experts say the numbers aren’t going to go down any time soon. The approximate revenue of the gaming industry in 2020 is estimated at $180 billion. That figure will only go up. Many parts of the world are still in lockdown. That means people are trying to find hobbies to distract them from what’s happening outside, The Hollywood Reporter says. While many gamers might be pros or those who’ve played before, many players are first-timers. They fuel the drive and demand.

Gaming as Escape

There are many reasons why gaming has become even more popular under lockdown. Some players are just doing what they’ve always done with their gaming friends. It’s a way to stay connected. Some are playing video games out of boredom. They have nothing else to do or are bored with whatever they need to do, so they’ve taken up gaming. For others, though, gaming has acquired a psychological meaning. It’s a handy escape from reality. Many are finding life during the current pandemic unbearable.

Psychological Toils

The pandemic has already undone so many lives at the current count, with millions of deaths worldwide. However, the deaths aren’t the only casualty. The forced isolation has taken a toll on people’s mental and emotional health. Some already have existing conditions. The pandemic has only worsened the situation for them. For others, the isolation has made them more vulnerable. People are social creatures, and many functions on this level. Without a continuous, everyday interaction, the lack of contact, people find themselves overthinking and giving in to the ills of anxiety and stress.

Video Games Help

Video games provide an easy distraction from these thoughts, allowing people to get out of their heads for a while. It might seem like an easy thing to do. But people have different emotional realities. Because of their accessibility and appeal, video games have proven popular, with many quickly adapting to their use.

Virtual in Video Games

Current technologies of video games demonstrate a growing trend: a preference for a truly immersive gaming experience. One way developers are trying to make that happen is through artificial intelligence in the application and development of virtual reality games. Virtual reality games promise immersive gameplay. Companies are still looking for a way to deliver this experience. But given the advances in technology, it’s clear that it won’t be long before we see games generations of gamers will enjoy.

Kinds of Games

The most popular games that we’ve seen during the pandemic include video games played on the computer, different consoles, and mobile gadgets. The popularity of games has led to an increased pressure on developers to keep launching new titles on the market. While the vaccine rollout this year is set to allow economies worldwide to open up, herd immunity is still uncertain. In the current environment, it’s safe to say that most companies will still allow non-essential staff to work from home. It means more time for most, projected to increase the number of gamers all over the world.

Future of Video Games

There’s the fact that we all want the same thing at this moment: for the pandemic to end. However, this outcome isn’t going to be achieved overnight. While governments worldwide have taken steps to deal with the problem, it’s too early to say or expect things to go back to normal. For now, we need to make sure that social distancing rules are met and that other hygiene and safety measures remain in place. This is the kind of present that the future of video games locates itself in. Given the impact of online spaces and how companies have changed their business models to address the current landscape and consumer market needs, one thing is sure: the gaming experience will be virtual. We’ve already seen this, but not in a fully immersive experience. But as social distancing continues, it’s easy to see how this practice will become the norm, even after the pandemic has ended. The way companies are changing the way they engage with consumers is indicative of how vital virtual reality is going to be to our everyday lives. That trend is sure to show up in the way virtual games will improve by leaps and bounds.
