Rohit Sharma ends association with Star, joins JioCinema as brand ambassador

JioCinema has announced the appointment of JioCinema as brand ambassador. The company stated that the cricketer will now open a new inning to build on its vision of making sports viewing synonymous with digital.

Interestingly, Sharma had earlier been signed by Star Sports, the TV broadcast rights holder of the IPL. As per JioCinema, Sharma has now moved to the digital streaming app as its ambassador. 

Commenting on the association, Rohit Sharma, said, “JioCinema is leading the way in transforming how sports is consumed in India across mobile phones and connected TV. The remarkable range of choices it provides fans is truly empowering. I am very pleased to associate with JioCinema and be part of this journey as it enables the shift to the digital platform and offers a higher degree of flexibility, accessibility, interactivity, and personalization to cricket fans.”

“Rohit Sharma embodies the spirit of sportsmanship, and unmatched leadership, representing the values that fans and players alike hold dear,” said, Viacom18 Sports CEO Anil Jayaraj. “Our presentation of sports and the ongoing TATA IPL have a synergy in Rohit’s ability to connect with fans, and this partnership is a natural extension to our quest in leading India on a path that represents an exciting future,” he added.

“Star cricketer and captain of Indian men’s team Rohit Sharma has come onboard as the brand ambassador for JioCinema. He’s moved to digital from TV. This shows that JioCinema is not just gaining industry talent, viewers and advertisers but star brand ambassadors too. We’ll keep building on our offerings and ensure that digital streaming gives innovative and unique experience to millions of our viewers,” a JioCinema official said. 

The company further stated that the cricketer will also take JioCinema’s digital-first proposition for all premium sports properties nationwide expanding the fan base.

Both JioCinema and Star have been running high octane marketing campaigns around IPL as they compete to attract maximum attention from both viewers and advertisers. 

JioCinema has also roped in names such as Sachin Tendulkar, Suryakumar Yadav, MS Dhoni and Smriti Mandhana as its ambassadors.
