India’s festive spirit bounces back in the new normal: Sulekha Study

New Delhi: A study undertaken by Sulekha, India’s leading tech-AI platform for expert services has unveiled interesting insights about how what Indians are looking up for during the festive season.

This study is based on visits and searches by nearly 3,000,000+ consumers across Indian cities that landed on Sulekha during the months leading to the festive season in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Key findings of the study:

Festival Spirit in India: Pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and in the new normal

The top three most searched services are

  • The top services are based on the searches that landed on Sulekha during 2019, 2020 and 2021 during the festive season.
  • The top three most searched services in 2019 during the festive season are Catering Services, Event Organizers and Pest Control Services.
  • The top three most searched services in 2020 during the festive season are Beauty Parlour Services, Pest Control Services and Cleaning Services.
  • The top three most searched services in 2021 during the festive season are Beauty Parlour Services, Catering services and Cleaning services.

Zone wise trends in 2021

NORTH (DELHI)

  • The top three most searched services in 2021 during the festive season are Beauty Parlour Services, Dance classes and Pest Control services.
  • In Beauty parlour services, people are mostly searching for Men’s salons closely followed by Women’s beauty parlour services. Men are looking up for services like hair styling and facials. Women are looking for an array of services including facial, manicure, pedicure and hair colouring.
  • In dance classes, people are mostly searching for institute-based classes for Bollywood dance followed by Hip-hop and Bhangra.

EAST (KOLKATA)

  • The top three most searched services in 2021 during the festive season are Beauty Parlour Services, Pest Control services and Dance classes.
  • In Beauty parlour services, people are mostly searching for at home and parlour based Women’s beauty parlour services.
  • In dance classes, people are mostly searching for institute-based classes for Hip-hop, Bollywood dance and Bharatanatyam.

SOUTH (CHENNAI, BANGALORE, HYDERABAD)

  • The top three most searched services in 2021 during the festive season are Beauty Parlour Services, Architects and Cleaning services.
  • In Cleaning services, people are mostly searching for full-home deep cleaning.
  • In Beauty Parlour Services, people are mostly searching for services at parlour – Men’s salon and at home – Bridal make-up services. Men are typically looking for services like shaving, hair colouring, head massage and even pedicure! Women are seeking services pertaining to specific functions like Sangeet, Reception, Engagement and Mehndi.

WEST (MUMBAI, PUNE AND AHMEDABAD)

  • The top three most searched services in 2021 during the festive season are Beauty Parlour Services, Interior design and decorators and Event Organizers.
  • In Beauty Parlour Services, people are mostly searching for Unisex beauty salons. Men are looking up for unisex beauty salons for head massage, hair styling and shaving.
  • In Interior Design and Decorators, people are mostly searching for home interiors and for complete houses.
  • In Event Organizers, are they looking for birthday party organizers at a venue that includes all services (Hosting, Catering, Sound & Lighting, Stage set up, Return gifts, Balloon Decoration and Magic show)

New services people are looking for during the festive season

  • Nationwide, some of the emerging service categories are Dance classes, Architects, Tailors, Mehndi Design services, Photographers & Videographers.
  • Mostly, people are looking for dance classes in Bollywood dances followed by Bharatanatyam (23%) and Hip-hop (11%).  They prefer to go to the institute.
  • Mostly, people are looking for mehndi design services in Bridal (34%) followed by Arabic mehndi (21%). They prefer the services to be at home or at the wedding venue.
  • Mostly, people are looking for photographers & videographers for wedding photography (40%) followed by kids’ photography services (18%) and event photography services (11%).

Satya Prabhakar, Founder & CEO, Sulekha, said, “This study is indicative of how Indians love spending during the festive season. Services under home improvement have seen a surge in searches as people want to beautify their homes ahead of the festive season. People are also extensively looking out for cleanliness and hygiene-related services owing to the pandemic. Interestingly, services such as dance classes and photographers are also seeing an increase. This could be attributed to the Navratri season.”
